How The Hell Did Justin Bieber Make A Belieber Out Of me?

By Max Berman on December 4, 2015

If you had asked me six years ago if I would want to see Justin Bieber in concert, I probably would have spit on you. Who the hell wants to see a pre-pubescent Canadian twig croon Baby on stage in front of thousands of pre-teen girls? As we make our way since then, we’ve watched Justin grow up in the limelight, and he became the butt of every joke. His only fan base being an army of “Beliebers”, those who briefly started slitting their wrists on the internet in order to gain his attention, and who spent their lives savagely lashing out at those who opposed almighty Bieber, whether it be in Twitter or in a Claire’s at your local mall. We then got to sit back and watch Justin go through his bad boy phase, a trainwreck I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed for a while. We all sat tensely as our boy JB was roped in Miami, under suspicion of DUI and racing recklessly throughout the streets. We got to see the once poster boy for christian values cover his body head to toe in tattoos, and even got to see him in bed with a prostitute. But through all this, it’s six years later and Justin Bieber has finally done something I never thought would happen. That little scumbag made a Belieber out of me, and with the release of Purpose, I am no longer ashamed to admit that I bop the album in my car, the shower, cooking, you name it.

What really is the most incredible thing of all though is the air of social acceptance towards the Biebs, as the tides have clearly changed. His collaboration with renowned artists such as Skrillex, Diplo, Big Sean, Nas, etc. on his new album have totally reinvented him as an artist, as he shines through with a mature sound and a voice honestly sent from the heavens itself. Not only is his sound mature, his concepts and ideas of inclusiveness are honestly groundbreaking, and are leading a new generation of collaboration. His music video for ‘Where are U Now” was created utilizing a popular instagram (@love.watts), and artists were encouraged to send in .gifs and images that would be included in the official music video, something that has not been done in the mainstream, and something I would certainly never expect from Justin Bieber of all people. His honesty shines through the entirety of the album, and overall encapsulates a total rebirth of a megastar, one with a softer edge, but who has garnered the interest of those who would not even consider listening to him just a couple of years ago. You have to respect someone who can totally reinvent themselves and deliver an album full of passion, as well as applicable to the main stream with excellent production and collaborations with some of the best in the industry.
