5 Reasons to Get Out of Bed Today: As Explained By The Office

By Alisa Hrustic on March 28, 2014

Is school over yet? No? Has anyone else noticed how difficult it’s becoming to find motivation to do anything? It might be that warmer weather and freer days are right around the corner, or that I really just don’t want to write another paper: either way– I don’t want to do anything ever and I’m dying. But alas! Two more lovely months grace this semester, so take some inspiration from The Office and get out of bed today… no matter how awful dealing with the outside world feels as spring continues to roll forward.

Reason #1: Your Alarm is Literally Screaming At You

There are few things worse than the beginning of another long, sleepless, planner-filled school week. The sound of an alarm early in the morning on a Monday can literally produce instant tears to an individual facing just the right amount of stress.

But don’t hit that snooze button! As tempting as it may be, try to get up after the first time your alarm goes off.

Personally, I love putting personal messages on my alarm that put things into perspective. Currently the alarm on my phone reads “BEYONCÉ WOULD BE UP BY NOW.” If Queen B can do it, then you better believe my insignificant self can get up to brush my teeth and maybe even brush my hair. Maybe.

Listen to your alarm, it’s not going to stop ringing no matter how many times you hit snooze.

Reason #2: Getting Up and Getting Organized

Staying in bed and lounging around can really mess up the flow of a scheduled life. Before you know it, you’ve forgotten what must be accomplished on what day and your mind has made a mess of things. Letting your lazy side take over eventually leads to conversation like this….

“I thought that assignment was due Tuesday?”

“It is Tuesday…”

No, St. Patrick’s Day is gone and so is any hope of passing your classes if you keep letting disorganized schedules get the best of you. Getting up and out of bed to have a nice cup of coffee while writing a to-do list may be the little kick of motivation needed to fuel your day.

Reason #3: Not Pushing Yourself Is Ultimately Super Boring

You have to admit, watching TV all day and avoiding interaction with the outside world kind of gets old after a while. Not pushing yourself all the way through the semester is not very exciting; some of the best college moments stem from continuously trying something different! Don’t lose your creativity, drive, or motivation to learn about new things and people stop as summer approaches. You’re surrounded by a plethora of activities, knowledge, and people your age: there is no excuse to be bored today.

Reason #4: Your Friends Are Having a Good Time, So Go Join Them!

What’s worse than missing a weekend out with all your friends because you decided to stay in? Having to listen to inside jokes and “remember when!” all week.

Don’t get me wrong, staying in and enjoying some down time has its perks, too. However, with two months left of school and summer approaching quickly, try to get in some extra time with people that make you happy before parting ways. Sometimes all you need are your friends and a few laughs to get you out of a slump.

Reason #5: There is Food Waiting For You in the Kitchen

Need I say more?

If you’re having a bad week, treat yourself to something tasty. It’ll make you feel better for the moment. And everyone loves food. Especially pizza. And chocolate. You’re tired, and busy, and maybe you deserve it. And maybe you just want some cake.

And maybe you just want to stay in bed, but just remember that you don’t have much time to push through, so make the most of what you have! Until then, don’t be surprised to find this look plastered all over students’ faces on campus.
